Rubberized adhesive resists dry-out and seals-out extreme weather.

Stronger, Longer, Rubberized Adhesive

Glue is super important in a shingle. It keeps the shingle together (laminate seals), helps prevent shingle uplift from high winds (wind seal), and keep out wind-blown rain (rain seals).

At Malarkey, we don’t just rubberize the asphalt used in our shingles, we also rubberize the adhesive to resist dry-out and for stronger, longer protection against wind, rain, and delamination.

Adhesive Formula

Malarkey pioneered the process of combining high-grade asphalt with synthetic rubber polymers, known as SBS (Styrene-Butadiene-Styrene) to chemically rubberize the asphalt core of the shingle for greater strength and durability.

We use a similar process with our adhesive, combining asphalt with SEBS (Styrene-Ethylene-Butylene-Styrene) polymers. This process dramatically enhances asphalt’s natural stickiness for greater adhesive grip, while adding rubberlike elongation and resilience to resist thermal dry-out, enhancing both its adhesive properties to join the shingles together and cohesive properties to prevent them from separating from the roof.

Malarkey Roofing Products Architectural Shingles

Adhesive Seals by Shingle Type

Our Architectural Shingles

6 ADHESIVE SEALS

Architectural shingles, like our Highlander® NEX®, Vista®, and Legacy®, come with 6 rubberized adhesive seals including 3 laminate seals (50% more than standard shingles), 2 rain seals (double standard shingles), and a wind seal.

Our Designer Shingles

8 ADHESIVE SEALS

Designer shingles, like our Windsor®, come with 8 rubberized adhesive seals including 3 laminate seals (50% more than standard shingles), 2 rain seals (double standard shingles), and 3 wind seals (triple standard shingles).

Our 3-Tab Shingles

1 ADHESIVE SEAL

3-Tab shingles, like our Dura-Seal™, offer a single wind seal, and do not require laminating or rain seals because they are made of only a single ply, versus the double ply construction of architectural and designer shingles.

Extreme Flexibility

Malarkey’s SEBS modified asphalt adhesive excels in the most extreme environments and conditions. It is flexible down to 0˚F (-18˚C), and ensures that the shingle seal remains intact through freeze and thaw cycles.
